Is it time?
As the summer solstice draws near announcing the mid-point of the year, ‘Not yet!’ I think, ‘Too soon!', not now, just wait!” I implore. I’m not ready...
Approaching another mid-year prompts me to reflect on this mid-life point,, I’m not ready for this time to end. There are things I want to do, places I want to see, things I want to create.
Time - more slippery now than a sea serpent.
Time seemingly speeds up with each year that passes regardless of my plans, and dreams. As a child a month seemed like an eternity but in later years four weeks too easily fly by, 12 months disappear as subtly as dust blown by the breeze from an open window.
If how we perceive time is relative to how much time we have already had and how much time we think we have left, then at this mid-point in my life, I wonder how many more summers will there be for me. During this last decade and even more so these last five years, I have found myself drawn to using my time well; being purposeful in my work, intentional in my relationships, selective about the activities I give my energy and time to, choosing not to waste time on things that really don’t matter.
Paradoxically, it is at this mid-point that I also experience more time to do less. It has taken practice to savour these moments; sitting comfortably with stillness or actively experiencing the glorious peace that comes from mindful walks.
A magical mid-point
The summer solstice is a magical mid-point to rediscover the inner light and let it nourish us from within, activating our energy to grow and become our fullest selves, just as Summer sunshine nourish crops to fulfil their potentiality.

Since ancient times, the Summer solstice has been a period when farmers reflect on the faith they have placed in all they have sown so far. Welcoming the coming season whilst hovering with fervent hope for sun and rain to favour them and cause their crops to flourish.
We may have dreams and desires of our own that we have been fostering and nurturing inside of us these last few months. We may be hovering around important projects; tinkering, refining, shaping, creating. There might be encouraging signs of what is to come if we look closely enough.
Reflecting on my work of the last decade, becoming a coach and building my business, those seeds were tentatively planted, hopefully, faithfully. Now gratefully noticing what has become evergreen and stands the test of time.
Seeing my offerings as perennial reminds me to feel thankful that I put that my work out there, nurturing it to become something that matters to people time and time again.
I have been cultivating new works too, experimenting with new varieties and practicing new ways of being that are emerging more visibly in my day to day life and work. This slow, thoughtful, pace laced with a rich enthusiasm for life itself not things or activities. A new book is in progress, a new course is being developed. Deeper friendships and more philosophical connections have emerged through spending time with soulful people and doing heart-led purposeful work. This time surely is a gift.
Every day is a gift to make use of in the best possible way.
(And details of my gift to you)
